GCA Forums

As the AKC Parent Club for Greyhounds, we've recognized that our breed is falling behind in litters born and puppies registered. We're setting up a Members Forum Series to help identify obstacles to breeding litters, using modern methods to place puppies, improving Breed Awareness by the public, and assisting our members to stay engaged in our breed and club.

We realize this is a multi-year project, it may take a few years before we see an increase in numbers of Greyhounds registered and owner/member participation in club activities. We start by sharing information and creating new solutions with old and new members.

First Topic — Making the Big Decision to Breed a Litter

Online via Zoom — Sunday, April 18th, 2021 at 4:30 PM EST

The First Forum in this Series is to identify obstacles to making that big decision to breed a litter.

Panelists in the First Forum include long time breeder/members who will discuss their decision making processes. The Forum is not about kennel names, bloodlines, or individual dogs. It will focus on specific questions related to breeding decisions, useful tools, and identifying the roadblocks to breeding a litter of Greyhounds. Zoom attendees will be able to submit questions during the session.

First Forum Panelists:  Carol Curlee, Dani Edgerton, Helen Hamilton, Pam Rubinstein, Melanie Steele, Scott Thomson, and Mary Trubek

Moderator:  Pamela Noll

SecondTopic — Placing Puppies

Online via Zoom — To be determined

A second Forum will feature the use of communications, advertising, social media, identifying outreach opportunities, and how the GCA can assist breeders with using online communications to locate new, responsible "pet parents".
